2 Kings 25:27
In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month.
2 Kings 25:28
He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.
2 Kings 25:29
So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.
2 Kings 25:30
Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sun, Sept. 12, AWEL MARDUK (II Kg. 25:27-30). Awel Marduk was the Babylonian king. For sure, he was not a believer. He worshipped many gods. But an unbeliever like him didn’t prevent him to be a kind king. He showed his kindness to Jehoiachin. How did he show the kindness?
1. Releasing him from the prison.
Not only giving him remissions or reductions, but he directly released him from the prison. Not because of Jehoiachin achievements or goodness, but because of his kindness. He was released from the prison bars and walls. Moreover, he was released from the social punishments. Many times, prisoners had been released but the punishments from the people still go on. Therefore, he could take off his prisoners clothes.
2. Speaking kindly.
The king spoke kindly and politely to Jehoiachin. He was honored by the king. He was treated so well more than other kings.
3. Serving food for him.
He ate at the same table as the king. I remembered David said that he served the food for Mephiboseth.
4. Giving allowance.
Jehoiachin got allowance everyday till the end of his life. He could live without need. He got more than he could imagine. May, we as Christians can be more kind than those who don’t believe in God. ASH.
