Genesis 19:31
One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, Oct. 28, CUSTOM (Gen. 19:31). Customs, cultures, habits of the world are not always good. We can see here, the cultures of the world at that time had been very sinful. Men had sex with men. No shame. No punishment. No objection. Even worse, the daughters of Lot raped their own father. They made their father drunk and then slept with their father. And the worst, we don’t see any anger, protest or rebuke from Lot to his daughters after he found out that his daughters did such a horrible sin like that. Lot is the picture of a bad father.
a. He offered his daughters to be raped.
What kind of father offered his own daugthers to be raped by the men of the city? Perhaps, not only to be raped, but to be killed. The daughters could die if they were raped by all the men of the city.
b. He didn’t run together hand in hand with his wife.
He didn’t hold the hand of his wife. He didn’t carefully warned his wife not to look back.
c. He didn’t teach his daughters well.
Therefore, his daughters could think and did such a horrible sin like that.
So, let’s follow the good custom. Especially, follow the good custom of being good father. (ASH)
