Genesis 31:19
When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father’s household gods.

Shalom.sdr, mu devotion today, Mon, Nov. 9, GODS (Gen. 31:19). It is obvious that men like to worship gods. Men are automatically will look for something or somebody to be worshipped. We can see here, that our ancestors were worshipping many gods. They were polytheist. No wonder, God asked Abraham to leave his paganistic country. But it was not easy to leave the gods. We can see that secretly and discreetly the love to the gods had embedded in the heart of the younger generation. Rachel loved the gods too. How did she love the gods:
a. She wanted to bring it everywhere she went.
She wanted to be always close to her gods.

b. She wanted to lie to her beloved father for keeping the gods.
She stole, hid and lied to her father about the gods. She said that she was having her period, so she couldn’t stand up.

c. She wanted to keep it secret to her husband.
She didn’t tell her husband that she stole the gods. Even, until the father came and looked for it, still she didn’t tell the husband.

Today, perhaps, we don’t have any statues as gods. But unconsciously, we also have many gods. Our children, hobbies, collections and habits have become our gods. We have to be free from all idols. ASH.
