2 Kings 21:3
He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, Sept. 8, MANASSEH (II Kg. 21:3). I believe that when Hezekiah gave his son a name, he didn’t have the intention that his son would be an evil man. He gave his son a name, Manasseh. His son became the king of Jerusalem. But unfortunately, his son became an evil man. I saw that his name had some kind of unique connections with his evil.
1. Manasseh in the Indonesian language.
In Indonesian language, Manasseh can means gone, disappear, invisible, can’t be seen, don’t know.
2. Manasseh in the Hebrew language.
In Hebrew language, linguistically the meaning of Manasseh is forget, causing to forget. No other meaning of this name. We don’t know for sure, why Hezekiah gave this name to his son. The scripture didn’t tell us and let’s not assume what we don’t know. But the meaning was not very meaningful, was it?
3. Manasseh in the reality language.
Actually, the meaning of his name and the action of Manasseh exactly had great accords. He did things more evil than his ancestors. He rebuilt the high places. He worshipped not only idols, gods, but also the starry hosts. He did many other evil things. His actions showed that he forgot all the blessings and commands of God. So the name is very important. We shouldn’t give careless and meaningless names to our children. ASH.
