2 Chronicles 5:12
All the Levites who were musicians—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sat, Oct. 16, TRUMPET (II Chron. 5:12). Trumpets are considered as fancy music instruments. Not because of the prize only, but also the way of playing it. Usually, until today, not many churches using trumpet in their worship services. If the trumpet is played, usually only 1 player too. At that time, trumpet was so familiar and used to be used in the worship services. Why?
1. The sound is loud enough.
Usually, a trumpet has a loud voice. It was fit with the situation of the time, the hilly or desert location. They had no amplifier. Trumpet didn’t need one. Moreover, 120 people played it, the voice must be enough for all the people to hear.
2. The maintenance is quite easy.
It is not too difficult. No need to be stemmed all the time. No need to be replaced oftenly like guitar strings.
3. The function gives effect of calling.
It called the people to come to worship. It also could mean the calling to God to come to the temple. It symbolized the prayer of the people to God. Everything is meaningful. May our life be meaningful too. ASH.
