Joshua 15:16
And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.”

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Thu, Apr. MARRIAGE (Jos. 15:16). There is a saying, that if someone wants to choose a cat, the color or the size is not important, as long as it can catch a mouse. So is true with the marriage, if someone wants to marry, the face, complexion, height are not important, as long as he can work. Work here means:
a. Able to stand on his own feet.
Caleb wanted to give his daughter to someone whom is able to stand on his own feet. In this case, to defeat the enemy. To get and cultivate his own land, to get the income. Otniel proofed himself to be able to defeat the enemy, then, Caleb gave his daughter to him.

b. Able to.protect the family.
By defeating the enemy, he proofed that he was a responsible man. He must be able to protect the family.

c. Able to bring the family to God.
He wouldn’t be able to defeat the stronger enemy without the help of God. He must had seek the help of God. He must had been very serious to ask God help, let God intervene and wait for his directions. Caleb felt save to give his daughter to this kind of man. Therefore, we can learn several insights here. We as parents can learn from Caleb. We as children can learn from Othniel. ASH.
