1 Samuel 5:7
When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.”
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, June 7, DAGON (I Sam. 5:7). Love can be deadly. The people of Ashdod loved their god, Dagon, to the death. They loved it unquestionably. They loved it so strong so that:
a. They built a temple for Dagon.
They loved their god so deeply, so that they built a temple for their god. They were willing to spend their wealth for their god. They didn’t only worshipped, loved, served, but also gave their money for their god.
b. They chose Dagon over the true God.
They kept loving Dagon blindly although they knew that their god was beaten up totally. They didn’t lose their love toward their loser god. They chose Dagon over God, although they had seen dan known that the God of Israel was a winning God, had given great victories to The Israelites. They just shut their heart out from other gods.
c. They taught the doctrine to their children.
They didn’t only believed Dagon for themselves. They also taught their children to do the same. They just didn’t want to change anything. Even, after seeing the same things happen at the other cities, Gath and Ekron, where God sent tumors and death. Do we have that kind of love to God? ASH.
