1 Samuel 21:12
David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, June 23, AFRAID (I Sam. 21:12). David was afraid. Was that true? Was that not exagerrating? Was that a missed translation? I believe it was not wrong. It was really the feeling of David. David for the first time felt afraid of the king of Gath, Achish in the land of Phillistine. Was he a:
a. Giant?
Achish was a regular man with a regular height. Although, there was a man whom interpreted Achish as a giant, but in the reality, he was not.
b. Attacking?
Achish didn’t do anything yet to David. He was just brought before Achish by a servant whom recognized him as the killer, he felt so afraid.
c. Known as a great warrior?
So far, at this point, we know nothing about Achish yet. What we know, that he was from the same people, whom had been defeated many times by David. David had killed Goliath The Phillistine. David had killed ten of thousands of The Phillistines. So, actually, Achish was a small dust in front of David. But, why David was so afraid of Achish? He was afraid of Achish would tell Saul, that he was in there. David didn’t want Saul to know his whereabout. He didn’t want Saul to be troubled with his presence. So, it’s fine to be afraid. We are just a mere human. We are limited. We are not omnipotent. Therefore, we need God. Dear God, we need you. We come to you. Help us. Strengthen us. ASH.
