2 Samuel 3:7
Now Saul had had a concubine named Rizpah daughter of Aiah. And Ish-Bosheth said to Abner, “Why did you sleep with my father’s concubine?”

2 Samuel 3:8
Abner was very angry because of what Ish-Bosheth said. So he answered, “Am I a dog’s head—on Judah’s side? This very day I am loyal to the house of your father Saul and to his family and friends. I haven’t handed you over to David. Yet now you accuse me of an offense involving this woman!

2 Samuel 3:9
May God deal with Abner, be it ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the Lord promised him on oath

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Tue, July 6, ARROGANT (II Sam. 3:7-9). Arrogancy is the problem of many people. Big or small. Young or old. Man or woman. We can see the arrogance of Abner.
a. He had committed adultery.
He had done great sins against God and the house of Saul. He slept with Saul’s concubine. Yet, he didn’t acknowledge his sins.

b. He hardened his heart.
He didn’t ask forgiveness, when Ishbosheth confronted him. He didn’t repent. On the other hand, he was angry.

c. He claimed the name of God.
A sinner like him didn’t acknowledge his sins, repent and stop the sins, but mentioning the name of God. I think this is very unappropriate. If he dared to mention God’s name, at least he had to repent and stop doing the sins. An arrogance man covers their sins by mentioning the name of God. Perhaps, sometimes he adds an oath to it. Let’s not be like that. Let’s always be humble. ASH.
