2 Samuel 16:13
So David and his men continued along the road while Shimei was going along the hillside opposite him, cursing as he went and throwing stones at him and showering him with dirt.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, July 19, SHIMEI (II Sam. 16:13). In this chapter, we can see how humble David was. Because of his humility, he could handle the things that Shimei did to him. He could control himself not to do bad things to Shimei, although Shimei:
1. Cursing him along the way.
Not only cursing 1 time, but all the way in his journey, Shimei cursed him. Not cursing behind him, but right in his very face.
2. Throwing stones to him along the way.
Not only verbal cursing, but Shimei also throwing stones at David. Whether the stones almost hit him or some stones really hit him physically, David didn’t do anything to him.
3. Showering him with dirt along the way.
Perhaps, the dirt come from the stones or from the soil which the stones hit, David was not disturbed. David had no problem with the dirt. It only made him dirty, but he didn’t angry toward Shimei. What about us? Would we be angry if someone does only 1 thing among those things that Shimei did to David? May The Lord help us to control self. Especially from the challenges like what David experienced. ASH.
