2 Samuel 18:9
Now Absalom happened to meet David’s men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom’s hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, July 21, HAIR (II Sam. 18:9). Hair is the crown of the head. For women, hair is very important and honored highly. People want to spend a lot of money to take care of their hair. Yes, hair can make people’s look and appearance so much better. It was proven also that the hair had made Absalom very handsome. But hair can cost not only our money or time, but also our life. We can see here that the hair of Absalom made him killed.
1. His hair was very thick.
His hair was not only a few. He must have a thick and healthy hair.
2. His hair was very long.
He didn’t cut his hair oftenly. The scripture said that he cut his hair once a year. He didn’t cut his hair because his hair was only a few. Just like us, who don’t like to cut our hair, because it is not too many. Absalom had a thick hair, but he didn’t like to have his hair cut oftenly.
3. His hair was very heavy.
His hair was not only thick and long, but also very heavy. When he had a hair cut, his hair was also weighed. Not everybody weigh their hair. But Absalom weighed his hair. And it was weighed 200 shekels. His extraordinary hair was stuck in an oak tree. It hanged him there. He didn’t want to cut his hair. He didn’t want to use things, his sword or else to cut his hair. Finally, Joab killed him mercilessly with 3 javelins. It was really a horrible death. Sometimes, what we love can cause our life. ASH.
