Genesis 44 30
“So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father, and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy’s life,
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sun, Nov. 22, BOUND UP (Gen. 44:30). The bond between parents and children can be so very close to each other. Not only the bond between mother and children, because the children were born from her womb, but also between father and his children. The bond between Jacob and Benjamin was very close,, therefore, if Benjamin died, Jacob would die too. As if the life of Benjamin was the life of Jacob. Jacob’s soul was in Benjamin. If it was gone, then, both soul were gone. This bond was closer than the bond of Jacob with his wives. Even with his most beloved, Rachel. When Rachel died for giving birth to Benjamin, Jacob didn’t say and feel things the same as if Benjamin died. This is not right. Lobe of parents to children can be very big, but the love between husband and wife have to be bigger. Why?
a. Husband and wife are not called bound up, but united.
The unity between husband and wife can help us understand a little bit about Trinity.
b. Husband and wife are not bound up naturally, by giving birth, but united by God divinely by marriage.
c. Husband and wife are not 2, but 1.
They are not 2 entities, but 1, not 2 different beings, but 1. No wonder, the bond of husband and wife can not be separated by men, nature, distant and everything. It is strong. It is sacred. It is spiritual. ASH.
