Genesis 39:2
The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Tue, Nov. 17, PROSPER (Gen. 39:2). Prosperous is the dream of everybody. Nobody wants to fail. But the meaning of prosperous is different from our understanding. We understand that prosperous is to be rich, popular, having good job, good income, good position, etc. Joseph was called prosperous, but he lost everything.
a. He was away from the family.
He was sold by his borthers to an Ishmaelite merchant for 20 shekels of silver. And then, he was sold again to an Egyptian official, Potiphar. Now, he was at the house of Potiphar.
b. He was working hard.
He didn’t live as a spoiled child. He was working hard as a worker/slabe at the house of Potiphar.
c. He was tempted in all sides.
Emotionally, physically and even sexually. The wife of Potiphar was attracted to him. But he refused. But, above all things, he was blessed by God. So, don’t translate prosperous just as many people understand. Christians have different translation for the meaning of prosperous. ASH.
