Joshua 5:13
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, Apr. 19, ANGEL (Jos. 5:13). Usually, if a man meets with an angel, he would be afraid, terrified, astonished or surprised. For example, Zachary the prophet. When he met with an angel, he was afraid (Lk. 1:12). Mary was surprised when she met with an angel (Lk.1:29). But Joshua was not afraid nor surprised. He communicated with the angel regularly:
a. He spoke calmly.
He used a common word.
He didn’t say your majesty, your highness or else.
b. He came unarmed.
He didn’t draw a sword too. He didn’t behave just as he wanted to fight. He just calmly spoke to him.
c. He came by himself.
He didn’t call a friend or his troops. He just spoke and act calmly. Those showed the real general in heart. Joshua was a real general. A real general was not afraid of anything, except his master. What about us, do we afraid of many things but not to God? ASH.
