Ezra 9:3
When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Thu, Nov. 25, APPALLED (Ezr. 9:3). Ezra was appalled by the sins and stupidity of Israel. They had been blessed so much, so great and so amazingly, but how could they fell in horrible sins. Not 1 sin, but many sins. Not new sin, but exactly the same sins that their ancestors did. They were in a very good condition, but how could they left God?
1. Appalled.
Ezra was appalled in disbelief to witness the hard necked and stubborness of the people. Their ancestors had been punished seriously, but they played again with the same sins. Why did they not learn from the stories and histories of the ancestors?
2. Abased.
Ezra didn’t want to blame or to say bad things toward and about others. He blamed himself. He evaluated himself. He cleaned himself. He checked himself. He meditated to see what sin he still had in his heart? What trespasses he still did in his life?
3. Ashamed.
Ezra could not say anything. He fell in shamefulness and sadness. He was speechless toward the sins of the people. He had tried everything he could. He just hoped and prayed that everything would be better. ASH.
