Hosea 10:5
The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Fri, July 31, CALF (Hos. 10:5). Isn’t amazing noticing what people from time to time doing? Especially, those who worship the idols. Why did they not worship stronger, greater and more amazing idols? Why calf? Not even cow or bull, but calf? What is the power of calf? Why not the cow? Isn’t cow better than calf? Isn’t it cow stronger than calf? And moreover, isn’t lion stronger than calf? Why calf? It shows nothing more than an ignorance. Their mind has been closed. No consciousness. No understanding. No wisdom. What a pity people? Calf is only an animal. Calf is the small young cow. Calf is not as strong as the cow or bull. But they still worship. The whole nation worship it. How great is their ignorance. Ya, they don’t care about what is more plausible or not, more meaningful or not, more righteous or not. They just made something to be worshipped. Their ancestors worship calf, they follow. How many times we just do our worship meaninglessly? We just do it without any understanding and benefit. Worship has nothing to do with our daily life. Today is Idul Adha. What benefit Idul Adha for us? Do we realize that Abr sacrificed his son to show great faith nd obedience? Do we realize that Jesus replaced the sacrificed animal with the divine blood? Do we realize that we too have yo sacrifice our life toward the world to make it alive for God? -ash
