Genesis 29:25
When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?”
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sat, Nov. 7, DECEIVE (Gen.29:25). Lie has overpower men completely. Everybody lies. Notice, the verse after, Laban said to Jacob that the custom in the tribe was lie. Lie in anything. Not only innthe secular world. Not only in business world. Not only in trading world. But also inside of the family, toward relatives. Jacob himself lied to his brother and father. Why people lie?
a. No love to.self.
Many people think that by lying, they will have benefits. It may looked like that. Therefore, they no wonder continued that kind of sinful life style. But at the end, no real benefit would be acquired.
b. No love to the other people.
Love is only toward self. Not to others, even to families and relatives. There is only ego and self concern. No concern to others’. Laban got the benefit from Jacob’s skillful and spiritful work.
c. No love to God.
If we love God, we won’t lie. We don’t want to break his law. It was obvious that Laban, Jacob, Leah, Rachel, Isaac, Rebecah, Abraham, Sarah, everybody were liars. Nobody liked to tell the truth. Nobody loved God. Nobody showed the true effect of faith.
Let’s just tell the truth. Honesty is the best policy. ASH.
