Luke 7:47
Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Thu, Aug. 27, FORGIVE (Lk. 7:47). A very popular and simple word, yet so many people misunderstand this word. In the connection with forgiveness, people think that forgiveness is given AFTER they do something. Forgiveness in this case is the result of their good deeds or efforts. So if someone wants to be forgiven, he has to do something first. Then, he will be awarded with forgiveness. I think, they misunderstand this word. The word consists of 2 words, before + give. I think it can’t be clearer, can it? Before + give, not after + give. So according to the word itself, we know that forgiveness is given BEFORE someone does anything. Because, forgiveness is the unconditional love of God. Because, it is the grace of God. So, it is not a kind of payment and a result of what we have done. It’s a gift of God. It’s given before anything else, so that we may love him more. Without forgiveness, no man can love him more.(ASH)
