Numbers 19:2
“This is a requirement of the law that the Lord has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, Feb.22, HEIFER (Num. 19:2). The symbol for redemption actually had been introduced since in the beginning to.The Israelites. They had been told many times through many ways, that redemption could be made by certain ways. Through blood, through sacrifice, through circumcision, etc. This verse adds the information about the redemption.
a. The redemption should be done by a tame cattle.
Notice the character of a young cow, the cattle at home. A cow is usually quiet, not moving too many, peaceful, obedient. It symbolizes Jesus, obedient, quiet and saying nothing when he was tortured and crucified.
b. The redemption should be done by a tough animal.
The toughest animal which they could raise was a cow. Well, there were many tuogher wild animal. But the safest and toughest animal was the cow. It symbolized the redeemer had to be strong to carry the burden of the sins of the people.
c. The redemption should be done by a typical method.
A heifer was perfect to depict the redemption. It was unblemished, expensive, big, tough, red, never had children, never been yoked. The first burden that he took was the burden of sins of the people. Everything had been told, so the people might know as deep as possible the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank you Jesus for your redemption. ASH.
