Genesis 25:18
His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Tue, Nov. 3, HOSTILITY (Gen. 25:18). It has to be acknowledged that people like to choose something which is forbidden and actually not available as a choice. Violence, hostility, hate, killing and so forth actually is not a choice. It should not be chosen by the children of God. But many people prefer to choose that. It is unrecommended, forbidden and unavailable, still people don’t care. And the worst is the parent, the religious leader and the peer support it as something normal. Here, we can see that the children and descendants of Abraham lived in hostility. Shouldn’t they live in hospitality, rather than hostility. Why people like to do that?
a. No serious emphasis on love.
We read no information from Abraham or Hagar toward their children about love the brothers, forgiveness, care, etc. We also don’t read information from Ishmael toward his 12 sons about love.
b. No deep emphathy on the struggle.
The children of Abraham from Keturah lived in a hard areas. The surrounding people treat them as rival and threat go their well being.
c. No concrete embodiment of care.
No one care for them. Especially, when they heard the story of how Ishmael almost died abandoned in the desert.
Let’s show more care and love to the people around us. ASH.
