2 Samuel 2:5
He sent messengers to them to say to them, “The Lord bless you for showing this kindness to Saul your master by burying him.

2 Samuel 2:6
May the Lord now show you kindness and faithfulness, and I too will show you the same favor because you have done this.

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, July 5, KINDNESS (II Sam. 2:5-6). Many times, we think that we have to do things spectacularly to amaze God. That is wrong. We don’t have to do big things to amaze God. God has loved us. We just need to do our best. Notice, the people of Jabesh Gilead. They just do “small” kindness, but God remembers them. They
1. Just burned and buried Saul.
They didn’t put their life on the stake by fighting in war together with Saul. They didn’t give any support to Saul in war.

2. Just burned and buried 4 persons.
They just took the bodies down, burned and buried them. They didn’t take care the bodies everybody. They didn’t embalm the body and so forth. Looks simple, isn’t it?

3. Just buried under a tree.
They didn’t put in the royal or more honored graveyard. They put the bones under a tamarisk tree. We don’t know where the tomb now. If they put the bones in a fancy graveyard, perhaps, we still can see the remnant or the site of the tomb. But, on top of everything, they were remembered and paid well by David. We have to do our best to God. God will be happy. ASH.
