Judges 6:6
Midian so impoverished the Israelites that they cried out to the Lord for help.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Fri, May 14, POVERTY (Judg. 6:6). Poverty, suffering, forced labor and so forth are used by God to teach people. God uses them to wake his people up from their sins. They are very powerful tool to make the people realize. When the people experience those things, they would come to God right away. But on the right hand, if they are successful, rich, abundant, affluent, healthy, all of a sudden, they would forget God.
a. Poverty is much more effective than abundance.
Many people believe that people would believe God when they are blessed materially. In reality, it is the contrary. Many people would leave God and live in sins when they are rich.
b. Poverty is much more effective than success.
If whatever the people doing are successful, they would easily and quickly think that it is because of their might, effort and strength. But when they fail, they would understand that they are limited and weak. They need God.
c. Poverty is much more effective than prophets.
Many times, God sends prophets to the people, but the people underestimate. People don’t want to listen to the prophets. But, when the people in poverty, their hearts and ears are wide opened to the word. So, do we have to wait for the poverty to start to listen to the word?
