2 Kings 1:12
“If I am a man of God,” Elijah replied, “may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Thu, Aug. 19, PROPHET OF FIRE (II Kg. 1:10, 12). Elijah was a specific prophet. He was known not by his food as John The Baptist did. He was known not by his strength as Samson did. He was known by fire.
1. Fire consuming the oxen.
He asked fire to come down to burn the offering on the altar in the challenge to the 850 Baal prophets on the mount Carmel. The fire came directly (I Kg. 18).
2. Fire in the mountain.
Elijah thought that God came in the fire, while he was so desperate and afraid (I Kg. 19).
3. Fire consuming the captain and his 50 men.
Ahaziah was afraid of Moab. He consulted Baal instead of the real prophet. God sent a message to Ahaziah through prophet Elijah. Ahaziah was not pleased by the message, so he sent his captains to bring Elijah to the palace. They came arrogantly and authoritatively. Elijah asked fire to burn them all.
4. Fire brought him to heaven.
Elijah was 1 of the person whom didn’t die, other than Enoch. At the end of his life, a chariot of fire plus with with its fiery horses came down from heaven to pick him up (II Kg. 2). Yes, we should serve God with fiery heart like Elijah. ASH.
