John 7:40
On hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”

John 7:41
Others said, “He is the Messiah.” Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, Sept. 2, PROPHET (Jn. 7:40-41). What is the requirement of a prophet? The most important thing is the message/prophecy. What is the requirement of a Messiah? The most important thing is the miracle. Jesus meets all of those requirements perfectly. He has met the prophecy of the prophet and he himself gave many prophecies. Jesus also did many awesome miracles, from subduing the nature till defeating the dead by raising Lazarus. Yes, Jesus has proven in front of their very eyes that he was not only a prophet, but he also was a Messiah. Yet, many people still confused who Jesus was. They were divided among themselves on who Jesus really was. Some of them even wanted to seize and kill Jesus. Ironic isn’t it? On the one hand, people are desperate to get the truth. On the other hand, people don’t want to receive the real truth. In the story here, one more important thing. The sign of a true prophet is that he can meet our longingness and emptiness in our heart. Whoever comes to him will not be thirsty again forever. Have we feel this promise personally?
