Genesis 14:22
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,

Genesis 14:23
that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.”

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Fri, Oct. 23, REFUSE (Gen.14:22-23). One of the good sides of Abram which many people don’t talk was his freedom over money. He didn’t tied with greed over money. He had no root in money. We can see here, that the king of Sodom wanted to give all the money of Sodom for his heroic act to save the people of Sodom. But, Abram directly and decisively refuse it all. He didn’t need to think twice. He didn’t keep some of the money and return the rest. He didn’t ask for anything to replace the money. He just refused it totally. How could he do that?
a. He remembered the promise of God which was going to make him rich.
He depended on God’s promise alone.

b. He respected his agreement with his nephew Lot, that the area of Sodom was his nephew’s area, not his.
He didn’t want to take anything from the area which didn’t belong to him.

c. He realized that by doing that, he would make the king treated his nephew better.
Abr was not only give the area to the nephew. But he also gave a support to his nephew.

Let’s have a life free from the love of money just as Abram had. (ASH)
