1 Samuel 3:13
For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sat, June 5, RESTRAIN (I Sam. 3:13). Every parents have many responsibilities. They are not only suppose to work, earn money for the living, to save for the future and so forth. But one thing that is also very important is that parents have to discipline the children. The responsibility to raise the kids can not be abandoned. God will hold the parents that responsibilities. From Eli, we can see his failures:
a. He didn’t rebuke the kids again and again.
He rebuked them only once. He didn’t say hard enough just as what he had said to Samuel. He didn’t warn them enough. He warned Samuel about the punishment of God.
b. He enjoyed the food that the kids gave him.
He knew that the food was gotten from evil ways. But he ate them and didn’t ask anything.
c. He failed to tell them what is true everyday.
He didn’t teach them the word of God.
d. He allowed them to continue the ministry.
He didn’t give them any punishments. Perhaps, he had to stop the kids from serving at the temple. He had to release them from ministry. So, let’s be serious with the kids. ASH.
