Genesis 37:29
When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sun, Nov. 15, REUBEN (Gen. 37:29). Reuben was the firstborn son of Jacob, Joseph’s oldest brother. It seemed that Reuben loved his younger brothers, especially Joseph, more than he loved his father.
a. He asked his brothers to spare for Joseph’s life.
He stopped his brothers to kill Joseph.
b. He was willing to come back to check on Joseph’s well being in the cistern.
c. He tore his clothes when he found that Joseph was not in the cistern.
But, this is the same Reuben whom entered into his father’s concubine’s tent to sleep with her (Gen. 35:22). He didn’t care for his father’s heart. He just followed his own heart. So, let’s love out brothers, parents and even our friends and enemies. ASH.
