2 Samuel 8:15
David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people.
2 Samuel 8:18
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; and David’s sons were priests.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sun, July 11, RIGHT (II Sam. 8:15, 18). Everybody has to do the right thing. But many times, what man considers as the right thing, actually not really right in front of God. We can see here, that David started to do the not right things rightaway after he was said, that he was right.
a. He ordained his sons to be priests.
Which sons? How many sons? Notice, for the other position, he was so clear. He mentioned the name clearly. The army general was Joab. The recorder was Jehoshaphat. The priests were Zadok and Ahimelek. But no name for David’s son whom became priests.
b. He ordained his sons silently and secretly.
How could his sons became priests? Who ordained them? Who led the ceremony? Did God ordered him to do so? Did Nathan know about this? Who gave David authority to ordain them? Who gave the authority to the priests, if any, to ordain them?
c. He ordained his sons consciously.
He knew he started to violate the truth. Perhaps, he started to set and prepare everything to do sinful thing safely. So, if he sinned, nobody would remind and hinder him. We have to be careful with any little sin, which may cause serious consequence. ASH.
