Genesis 22:2
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sat, Oct. 31, SACRIFICE (Gen. 22:2). Here, we read the story of a man of faith. He was tested by God to the point of implausible. It is impossible to do it, but Abraham could pass the test. He didn’t ask to go to a place far away. He didn’t ask to go up to the mountain. He didn’t also ask to sacrifice a ram. He was asked to sacrifice his only beloved son. But Abraham passed. He obeyed perfectly and completely.
a. He didn’t say a thing.
He just obey. No bargain. No complain. No question.
b. He didn’t postpone.
He did it as quick as possible. He didn’t slumber. Early morning, he had already prepared and gone to the mountain.
c. He didn’t play dumb or smart.
He didn’t pretend to forget a thing. He didn’t intentionally bring a ram. He didn’t bring a back up plan. He didn’t bring Ishmael. Nothing.
What a great story of a man of faith. Let’s be more faithful to God. (ASH)
