Amos 1:1
The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel.

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Sun, Aug 2, SHEPHERD (Amos 1:1). God doesn’t choose only the smart, the rich, the strong, etc. He also chooses the weak, the lack of intelligence, the poor, etc. to accomplish his will. In this verse, again he chooses a shepeherd out of nowhere. Not from a famous big city such as Jerusalem. Tekoa? Who knows Tekoa? If God doesn’t choose Amos grom Tekoa, perhaps, nobody will know where is Tekoa. The same as Bethlehem. If God doesn’t choose David from Bethlehem, then, perhaps, nobody will know where is Bethlehem. Not from a well known country, such as Egypt or Babel. But never underestimate the man God chose. He was tested by facing wild huge fierce animals. Therefore, he didn’t afraid of people. In this chapter, at the beginning of the book, right away he rebuked 5 cities: Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom and Teman. Outstanding. Awesome. He rebuked without reserve. He just powerfully deliver the message of God. So God can choose and use anybody. Let’s offer our lives to be used by God. -ash
