Judges 12:6
They said, “All right, say ‘Shibboleth.’ ” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Thu, May 20, SHIBBOLETH (Judg. 12:6). We can read a war between brothers, Gilead and Ephraim is told in this chapter. It was not beautiful at all. What was the cause? The cause was pride. The Gileadites was touched by the statement of The Ephraimites. Therefore, they killed The Ephraimites. Every Ephraimites whom wanted to cross Jordan River had to say Shibboleth. And actually, the dialect was different. Therefore, the person whom could not pronounce it well, was killed directly.
a. Only 1 word.
They were not asked to say many words. Not several words. Not long words. Only 1 word. Short word. Simple word. Daily word.
b. Only 1 letter.
The difference was only in 1 letter. 1 syllable. 1 consonant.
c. Only 1 chance.
They were asked to say it one time. Once they could not say it, they would be killed right away. 42 thousands people died that day because of pride. Egoism. Emotion. So dire view that day. No good at all. Let’s forgive and love to each other. ASH.
