1 Samuel 27:5
Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be assigned to me in one of the country towns, that I may live there. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
1 Samuel 27:6
So on that day Achish gave him Ziklag, and it has belonged to the kings of Judah ever since.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Mon, June 28, STRANGE (I Sam. 27:5-6). There were so many strange things happened in the story of David’s life. Before, he could kill Goliath. Yesterday, we saw that he could came so close to Saul unnoticed. Today, we see that he could ask to the king of Gath, Achish, a big favor.
a. He asked a city.
He didn’t ask food to eat, any equipments or else. He didn’t borrow things from Achish. He asked a city to live. Whatever city. Wherever city. However city.
b. He asked without giving him any promises.
David didn’t say anything to him, except asking him a place to live. David didn’t give him any promises to do this or that.
c. He asked kindly.
He didn’t threat him anything. He didn’t take out his sword or else. If God could soften the heart of Achish, he would also give us unpredictable blessings through strange ways. ASH.
