Luke 3:12
Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Wed, Aug. 26, TAX COLLECTOR (Lk. 3:12). People at the time of Jesus considered tax collecting is a bad job done by bad people. Why? Because, they oppressed the other people to pay more than what they should pay. Actually, Jesus didn’t anti with this job. He didn’t anti the job nor the person who did the job. He didn’t say, “Don’t be a tax collector.” Nor he said to the soldier, “Don’t be a soldier” (v 14). The problem is not on the kind of job, but on the way the job done. The kind of job doesn’t guarantee that the person must be alright, fine and good. Even, a job as a minister in the church can’t guarantee that. Many times, ministers in the church cause greater problems than those whom are laymen. Ministers cause disunity, defamity and declivity of what is good. Ministers fighting to each other, ego bursting, etc. So the problem is not on the kind of job, but on the person. Therefore, Paul said that in anything that we do, we should do it in the name of God (Col. 3:17). (ASH)
