1 Samuel 20:14
But show me unfailing kindness like the Lord’s kindness as long as I live, so that I may not be killed,

Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Tue, June 22, UNFAILING (I Sam. 20:14). Unfailing kindness is not only belong to God. Yes, God is the ultimate and source of an unfailing love or in this case, kindness. But, we as children of God are also able to do it by his strength. Therefore, we can see it here, it was practiced by David and Jonathan. Unfailing kindness:
a. Although in distance.
Because of Saul, so David had to flee from him. Therefore, he didn’t meet and being together with Jonathan. Many times,. A friendship could not be maintained if the distance is far. Especially, at that time no social media. No technology. No facility. But still long distance relationship is a difficult thing to be maintained.

b. Although in long time span.
The friendship between David and Jonathan was not only temporary. Was not only while everything was good. Was not only when Jonathan was alive. The friendship was eternal. They made a covenant which uphold their oath for everlasting.

c. Although in need.
David’s oath with Jonathan later was shown to Jonathan’s family, Mepuiboseth. Mephiboseth was a cripple man. What a cripple man could give to David in turn for his kindness? Nothing. Would it make David forget his oath? Change his terms? Reduce his care? Shall we copy and put into practice the unfailing love? ASH.
