2 Samuel 6:6
When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled.
Shalom sdr, my devotion today, Fri, July 9, UZZAH (II Sam. 6:6). God has clear and strick rules and laws. We can never play with them. Not only in The Old Testament, but also in The New Testament. In The New Testament, we read about Ananias and Saphira. They lied, therefore, God struck them dead. In The Old Testament, we read the story of Uzzah. Uzzah touched the ark. God was very angry, so that God killed Uzzah. Why? Was it a small sin? No. Why?
a. Because, he intentionally placed himself to the temptation.
Everybody knew where to walk. He was the only one who placed himself close to the temptation. He opened a chance for sin to come in. He walked next to the ark. His brother walked in front of the ark.
b. Because, he stood too close to the ark.
He was not only standing next the ark, but he was also standing very close to it, so that he didn’t give room for the priest to stand there. The priests were suppose to stand there, as it was the responsibility. But, Uzzah took over that responsibility. Uzzah himself was not a priest. If he realized, who he was, he wouldn’t stand too close to the ark. He was nobody. Not a priest. Not a king. Not a prophet. He was just the son of Abinadab or the grandson of Saul.
c. Because, he was so overacting.
The story said that the oxens were stumbled, not the ark. Why did he not hold the oxens? On the other hand, he hold the ark. Therefore, we have to do our responsibilities, not someone else’s. ASH.
